Gluten-free Food.

Gluten-free Food.St Helena Is

The start of a new year is always a good time to get into a refreshed way of eating…& one of those ways is to go gluten-free for a while.

One of my housemates is gluten intolerant so we generally lean that way on a daily basis anyhow. But aside from that, after the recent festive seasons indulgences, I think we could all use a bit of a clean regime for our digestive system. Let’s give it a bit of time to rest & recover…:))from my sisters garden

We have been fortunate & had fun accommodating & entertaining a young couple from Kent, who were kind enough to show us around when we visited England earlier this year.

First time to our shores…a dream worked hard for. Much excitement!

And so we become tourists in our own backyard. We spend days exploring with fresh eyes, from Noosa to Caloundra, from the Glasshouse Mountains to the gorgeous Blackall Range. We do bush walks & waterfalls, soak up the sun on the beach, sip cold drinks at the clubs, lunch & coffee in cafes, throw things together in the kitchen & dine on the deck.

We laugh a lot & learn about each respective culture, & then send them out into the wide blue yonder….friends

Closely following on their heels, we have also had the return of precious old friends who come stay with us every second year. When they come celebrate Christmas, & a birthday, traditionally we combine the two families & see the New Year in together.

Our boys have been friends since they were 5 years old.

My friend has had a stroke this year, & so a joyous little bundle of white fluff has joined the tribe. He brings hours of delight to both patient & carer. And to all who get to play with him :)) Little Spook, a welcome addition!Spook

Even with all this going on, as well as the catering whirlwind, we are still trying concentrating on being kind to our insides, (even going a huge step further with trying to alkalize our systems. But that’s a whole other story for another tale down the track.)

Meanwhile, chasing around the internet looking for inspiration, has delivered some interesting sites. Thought I would just share a heap….some of them are really beautiful, some handy & user-friendly, some just brilliant! Enjoy…casual dining

  1. Thanks for all the useful info. I agree my digestive system needs some help after that crazy festive season 🙂

    • lol, hey Val :)) Yep, I’m thinking there may be a lot of us out there….but wasn’t it fun while it lasted?
I guess that’s the thing…if you do something crazy to your system, then you need to counteract.
      We love balance :)) xx

  2. I’m trying to cut down on gluten this year (mostly bread). I think if we cut down on process food, we will automatically cut down gluten (and all the other nasties that come with it). Great post Veronica! Going to check the list of blogs you recommended. I love Ohsheglow!

    • Oh Karen thankyou…
Love that you already know one of the blogs, there’s some great reading amongst that lot :))
Good luck with the cutting down gluten. There are some really good gluten-free breads out there now….
      xx

  3. I don’t have a problem with gluten but I do need to cut back on the rich food after the holidays. After John’s incident today I suspect my blog will soon be orgasmic and heart healthy recipes. 🙂

  4. How very scary for you both Maureen! Thank goodness he’s okay….
Yes, I don’t have a gluten problem either, but I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t hurt any of us to be a bit cleaner in our body fuel consumption :))
Looking forward to seeing those heart-healthy recipes.
    xx
